Caleb Hogan is an
up-and-coming pianist whose music is as fresh and honest as the young
man himself. In today's musical menagerie, overrun with glitter and
hype, Caleb produces sounds so distinct and compostions so pure they
compel us to stop and listen. With his gorgeous, soothing melodies and
natural ability to tell stories without words, Caleb takes his
listeners on a peaceful journey to a place of solitude removed from the
hectic pace of everyday life. Influenced by contemporary soloists such
as Jim Brickman and saxophonist Kenny G, Caleb's compositions are
"real," and relevant to the modern listener. Caleb's firm belief
that instrumental music has been rightfully misunderstood in the past
keeps him continually creating new music that can be enjoyed by the
ears of laymen and musicians alike.
Born in Nacogdoches, Texas on March 20th, 1985, the story of Caleb's
early life and musical training is surprisingly normal. After moving to
Ardmore, Oklahoma at the tender age of four, Caleb devoted his energies
to playing sports, showing little interest in music until he was 10
years old. "I remember when told my parents I wanted to learn to play
the piano," he recalls.
"They were skeptical, and understandably so. It was such a departure
from all I had been interested in up to that point. So they bought me a
couple of self-paced piano books and told me when I finished those,
they would pay for lessons." Ironically, his parents' hesitatancy
seemed well-placed at first. "I wasn't very consistent with my practice
for a long time. It took me about two years to finish those little
books," he laughs. "My parents held up their end of the bargain,
though, and found a teacher for me. After that, I got serious about
learning how to play."
Seven years later, Caleb released his
debut solo piano album, entitled Reflections,
at the age of 19. Comprised entirely of original compositions, the Reflections CD is a collection of
relaxing, uplifting pieces that showcases Caleb's ability to connect
with the listener without the use of spoken words. The album's
tranquil, beautiful melodies allow the listener to be transported to
their own quiet place, free from the limitations of the specific
stories lyrics might tell. The effectiveness of this approach is
evidenced by the outstanding success of the Reflections CD thus far. The sounds
of Caleb's music have been heard in homes and commercial
outlets across the nation. More recently, Reflections has been
chosen as one of only six CDs to be featured in the Hobby Lobby chain
of stores' "Audio Ambience" 2007 program, an honor that will bring it
to 370 plus stores in 29 states.
Apart from his piano's fresh voice in the world of commercial
recording, Caleb has shown enormous potential as a concert performer,
as well. With a natural, easy-going manner and unassuming, yet
confident presence on stage, Caleb builds an immediate rapport with his
audiences. His commitment to top-quality entertainment that is also
family-friendly is a testament to his Christian ideals and very nature
as a person. Caleb's honesty and simple charm are the perfect
compliment to the music he performs, and a breath of fresh air to the
entire community of the performing arts.
Given his distinctive style, humble character and graceful image, Caleb
Hogan is almost certain to play his way into thousands of hearts for
many years to come. Without a doubt, Caleb fulfills his lofty title and
truly is a "Pianist for the 21st Century."
